Utilities

There are three utilities that may need to be turned on before you can enjoy Anembo Cottage:

  1. The mains water
  2. The electricity
  3. The gas hot water

It is also worthwhile mentioning how to swap between tank water and mains water. However this is unlikely to need your attention.

1. The mains water.

This is located about 4-5 metres from the north eastern corner of the house. See the diagram below.

2. The mains power. This involves turning the “Main” circuit breaker at the power board to “on” (it is on the far left of the power board as you face it).

3. The gas hot water. This is inside the house. It is located on the wall outside the toilet/shower near the washing machine. It is a touchpad. Press the green button “on” and be sure the digital metre reads “50” degrees (if not, use the arrows to increase the reading).

NOTE: These utilities may all be ON when you arrive.

IF THEY ARE “ON” WHEN YOU ARRIVE PLEASE LEAVE THEM ON. IF THEY ARE “OFF” WHEN YOU ARRIVE PLEASE SWITCH THEM ALL “OFF” WHEN YOU LEAVE.

4. The Water Tank

Mains water is piped to the kitchen and shower. The toilet, hand-basin and washing machine use rain water pumped from the 18,000 litre tank. This enables efficient water use. The rain water is perfectly safe, clean and suitable for the purposes intended. It is not advisable to drink the water.

Tank water is also available at the taps at the end of the garden and at the north-east side of the house (under the power board). Water at these locations can be used to wash equipment and cars, fill kid’s swimming pools, etc.

It is very unlikely that the tank will empty. However in the unlikely event that it does here is how to restore mains water to the toilet and hand-basin.

  1. Locate the two switch levers under the eastern side of the house below the outside shower (one lever—lever 1—is impossible to see unless you are on your knees looking underneath the house).
  2. If tank water is being used the levers will be in the following position:

  1. 3. Move the levers to the opposite position as below to restore mains water and to disable the tank:

PLEASE NOTE: these levers should not be tampered with unless the tank is empty and fails to supply the toilet, washing machine or handbasin!
